Definition of String
String is a billiards term that is a part of Pool Table Terminology.
In various indoor games, a string is usually a score or tally, as in American billiard games, marked by buttons threaded on a string or wire. String may also refer to the unmarked lines that run across and along the bed of a billiard table as defined by the diamond markings on each rail. Examples of this type of string would be the long string, head string, and foot string. A string also refers to a series of successive billiard game wins within a match or race.
See: on the wire, across the string, on a string, having the cue ball on a string for more on the meaning of "String".
String - Usage
String that last point across for me will you? When you shot that, it went past the long string. I didn't think it was possible with those blocking balls.
