Definition of Billiard
Billiard is a billiards term that is a part of Billiard Technique Terminology.
There are several meanings to the word billiard. In some carom billiard games, a billiard is a successful attempt at performing a billiard shot that yields a score under that particular game's rules. For example, in three-cushion carom billiards, a player contacting 3 cushions and then scoring would be considered to be executing a billiard. When the player fails to complete the scoring requirements, the action is not called a billiard. Alternatively, billiard refers to a shot where the cue ball is caromed off of an object ball with the intent to strike another object ball. The shot is referred to as a billiard even if no cushions are contacted in the interim. It should be noted that the term billiard is not the singular form of the term billiards. There is no relationship between the two terms in that context.
