Definition of Action
Action is a billiards slang term that is a part of Gambling and Betting Terminology.
Action refers to a billiard session in a pool hall where the games are played for money. For example, when inquiring about a certain pool room, a player might inquire as to whether or not they get much action there. The term generally refers to a situation where there is gambling, or where there is the potential to gamble on a billiard game or match. For example, a pool shark may assess a room where there is currently no gambling taking place, and determine that his chances of initiating bets and winning would be favorable. He would be assessing the potential for action in that billiard hall. Action is a billiard term which can also be used to describe lively results on a ball, (normally the cue ball,) caused by the application of english. Action would often be used to describe, draw follow; not necessarily or even predominantly english.
Action - Usage
Let's go in to that billiard hall and see if there is any action. Do they get much action in there? Did you see that shot, I have not seen her put that much action on the cue ball in a while. Her application of english is improving.
