Definition of Dead
Dead is a billiards term that is a part of Billiard Technique Terminology.
In one pocket, when two or more balls lie sufficiently close to each other that they create either a combination or a carom that directs a ball quite reliably toward a player's target pocket, when hit reasonably properly. Generally a dead ball does not require as accurate a hit with the cue ball than would be required for a normal shot.
