Definition of Wing Ball
Wing Ball is a billiards term that is a part of Game Rule Terminology.
A wing ball is considered to be either of the balls sitting at the lateral extreme regions of a nine ball diamond when in position in a rack. The wing balls are normally used as a reliable judge of a quality break. In nine ball, the break is normally taken from close to one of the cushions in the kitchen. The break is considered a quality break when the opposite wing ball is pocketed.
Wing Ball - Usage
You can tell that it was a nice break because of the way the two wing ball was pocketed on the break shot.
