Definition of High
High is a billiards slang term that is a part of Billiard Accessory Terminology.
High is a billiard term used to reference the high group of balls. It is named such because that suit or group of balls is numbered 9 through 15, which is higher than the group numbered 1 through 8. Contrast with low. In a slang context, high is a snooker term used to reference the position of the cue ball. See above for more information. The term high can also be used to reference the area of contact between the cue tip and the object ball. Any shot above the cue ball's equator would be considered a high shot. High also means the same as the term "above" when related to snooker to reference the position of the black in relation to the red. Also in the slang sense, as related to billiards, pool, and snooker, the term high may refer to the number of balls a player runs during a single inning at the table without missing a shot. In this sense, the player would have been said to have made a high run.
