Definition of Shortstop
Shortstop is a billiards slang term that is a part of Skill Level Terminology.
A shortstop is a billiard player who is considered an excellent player but is not quite at the same level of the very best player in his or her sphere. Shortstop, of course, is a term used relative to who the player is compared to. For example, a local shortstop is one of the better players on the local scene. In a professional sense, a billiard player shortstop is one who often finishes in the money, which is usually the top three, but never actually takes first place in the tournaments.
