Definition of Open
Open is a billiards term that is a part of Game Rule Terminology.
Open is a state of play where the choice of suit has not yet been determined because no balls have been pocketed by either player or team, or because one of each ball has been pocketed on the break shot and the player has not yet decided, or pocketed another ball.

The table is open. What suit are you shooting? None, it's open.
