I'd stay away from black pool table cloth. I know that it may go well with your decor, but its horrible to play on.
Since it is so dark, many say that there are issues with depth perception. Reports indicate that extra lighting has not helped.
Beyond the effects on your game, black pool table cloth is a nightmare to clean. If you get black chalk, it will make your cues look very dirty, as well as your hands.

Thanks for the reply. I've talked with three installers and one of them said that the owners of a LARGE billiards retail operation actually had their home table just re-covered in black. We will continue to use the blue Master, and are table gets brushed before and after any play time. Plus the table is 100% top to bottom covered when not in use. I asked three owners of "pool halls" my question, and they all mentioned the depth aspect, but none of them ever played on a black table. I hope to hear from a few owners of the elusive black table on that issue. Then again, it's only $400.00 for the 860 install, and the 2-3 hours of down time if black proves to be a problem. We are going to give this issue a week before a decision is made, and I'd sure like to hear some input.

Tony : One of the reasons that pool tables have been (historicly speaking) covered in green is because green has been determined to be the most favorable to the eye as far as a restful color. Thus it also effects preception and clarity. Black is one of my favorite colors, but on pool table where it will create some degree of eye strain for me it's a no-no. My main concern is: do not put a color on the table that you may come to regret later on.

... and, moreover, you will not be able to find 8 ball on such pool table.
