Billiard Set With Numbers and Bottle

I just recieved my new pool set and it came with a plastic bottle and plastic number pieces in it. Excuse my ignorance, but what are they for? my friend said they are for gambling. Is this true?

    What you got was a "Shake Bottle" (pea bottle) and "Peas" from the sounds of it.

    For example, in kelly pool, a player shakes the bottle containing all of the peas. Each player draws a pea which will correspond to the numbered ball they must shoot for and sink.
