Staining an Oak Pool Table
I have just bought an older oak pool table and thinking about staining it before re-assembling to make it look a little newer. Does anyone have any hints or experiences with staining an oak pool table that I should be aware of before doing this? I have uploaded the image of the pool table.

You need to completely disassemble the wood from the rails and bumpers. You will need to disassemble the frame to the extent possible so that you can sand into the corners. You will need to sand off any finish currently on the wood in order for the stain to absorb evenly into the wood. interrior corners are going to be significantly difficult in both sanding and in staining.
I, personally, would not sign up for such a task.

My father was a cabinet maker by trade. I myself did a lot of wood working. The hardest thing to do IMO is refinish wood that has already been stained by hand. First thing I would try with hesitation is using a varnish with a stain added. Or you could just apply several coats of fresh varnish but even that requires some skill. I would op for just polishing the table. Nothing wrong with letting it show it's age. Age is character! I wish you luck. Nice table!

Thanks for the comments. I think I am not going to re-stain this pool table. I was thinking of doing it since I was re-felting the table to have a wine/burgundy color felt and I was thinking about making the wood a mohageny or dark brown satin that would go with that wine color felt. Do you have to do all of the sanding if you are just putting a darker color of stain on the wood?
Thanks for the replies,
Jeff
