I have just inherited an old coin-op pool table and its coin mechanism is old. It is not a straight six coin mechanism, but rather, you lie the coins down flat.

How do I convert that type of coin mechanism into a free play pool table?

The mechanism is similar to this:

Once inside the coin mechanism (removed from the table) it should be pretty easy to observe what makes it work.

Try not to break anything but think about ways to use rubber bands or spring or paper clips to hold parts in the wide open position to allow whatever acts as the "locking mechanism" - to make it stay - "unlocked."

If you don't have that sort of aptitude, simply find some flat-washer or similar round, flat parts in any hardware store that fakes out the coin slot, even a "handy box" in the electrical department and see what slugs might work.

You may decide to keep the coin mechanism in use - and simply require dummy coins?

Let us know what you decide.
