Humidity levels in a basement with pool table
I'm looking at getting a table at some point, and I am concerned about the humidity levels in the room. I'm more concerned with the actual play of the table, as far as english and speed control. I know that my father has a beautiful 1908 Brunswick with newer Simonis cloth on it, but it never really played that great. I noticed that playing on a Kim Steel 9 ft with Simonis offered way more speed, and especially more response to any type of spin placed on the cue ball. I always wondered if it was the table, or the fact that it was a moist basement that affected the play. I know that in bowling the humidity can affect the pin action, so I would assume that the same would be true to a certain degree in billiards as well. Is there a recommended humidity level to shoot for in a pool room? Thanks.

The possibility exist that the humidity plays a big role in the table play. Why doesn't you dad get a dehumidifier for the room. The table may play better and you may find it will sway your opinion about what you may want to get.
