How to Remove Seized Slate Screws in Antique Pool Table

How to Remove Seized Slate Screws in Antique Pool Table

We had Joe Newell of Newell's Antique Billiard Supply restore our antique Brunswick Monarch pool table in 2004.

We are now moving and the pool table service person trying to disassemble the pool table says the slate screws are stuck or seized. He said that he's afraid if he forces them out, it will break the slate.

Is there a tool available to help loosen these seized slate screws on an antique Brunswick Monarch pool table?

If you can't reach Joe Newell and are still looking for a solution to removing the slate bolts from your pool table, try calling Ken Hash at Classic Billiards in Perry Hall, MD.

    Ken Hash

    • (410) 256-8388
    • (410) 391-3333

He's an expert on antique billiard tables and pool table restoration, and will likely have some advice and/or some specialized tools for the job depending on what is required.

He's always happy to provide advice via the phone.

Other pool table technicians I talked to suggested there might be some beeswax in there. If so, using a propane torch to gently heat up the slate around the screws may help it come loose.

As your pool table mover mentioned, cracking the slate is always a risk, so it is a must to go slow, work carefully, and be as gentile as possible so as to not crack the slate. No need to rush it.
