Brunswick Ashbee 9ft Pool Table Pocket Size

I am new to the forum and just recently purchased a 9' Brunswick Ashbee pool table. While I do like it and think it looks great, I also feel like the pockets are really big. The corners measure to a 5 1/8", but it looks like the shelf is only about 1 inch. Here are my questions:

A neighbor bought an 8' olhausen, and his pockets are only about 41/2", with a deeper shelf for sure, much more challenging. Is there any way to convert my table to be at leaset more challenging (maybe not that much, but something?)

If I do a rail shim, won't that just shorten the shelf even further? (i.e. bringing the point to point closer to the inside of the pocket)
