Balls Popping Out of Pockets

Balls Popping Out of Pockets

I just started looking through your forum and read some very helpful threads on cue tips and now I wanted to address a unique (probably not) problem that I have with my 8' pool table.

Both my side pockets and one corner pocket have a high frequency of the ball hitting the back leather liner and popping back out on to the table... The ball does not physically go down into the pocket, then bounce up and come out. This happens most often when i am playing low-English to get a strait draw.

My guess is that somehow the pocket, when it was installed or built was not angled correctly... Is there a way to adjust the pocket so the ball goes down into the pocket rather then popping strait out?

I have no idea how to remedy the problem. You could get whoever installed the table to fix the problem if possible. In the mean time I'll talk to a table mechanic and try to find an answer.

    Thank you Fenwick.

Unfortunately the people who I bought the table from are no longer in business... They were using their business as a front to sell drugs. Weird I know. They also installed some really crappy felt on the table as well, and never got back to me when I told them to fix these problems as well as the felt. I'm hoping to get the taple refelted in the summer. Probably some S 860.

The way to prevent this problem is to hit the ball less hard. If the ball rolls into the pocket at 1 foot per second, the effect you mentioned cannot happen as the ball will have dropped 4 inches by the time it hits the back of the pocket.

Yes I have adjusted my play to hit not as hard... However there are plays where I am forced to hit much harder in order to get into position for my next shot... I also play a lot of draw shots as I am very good at hitting a draw into the correct location...

It is not easy to limit the speed of the ball into the pocket when doing these shots...

    Thanks,

    Jason

Here's what I got in the way of a answer.

If you have a table with leather drop pockets, that problem is sometimes caused by the back on the pocket being too low in relation to the playing surface. If you can get to the bolts that hold the pocket irons in place to loosen them then lift up on the back of the pocket iron and re tighten them... that may solve the problem. It might help if we knew more about what make and model table your asking about.

Frequently the side pockets, mostly, will spit balls out. If I need to hit med-hard for a breakout shot, how would hitting softer remedy the problem? Could I order different backing plates to remedy this??

    Forget all this crap!

What is the RULE in a professional pool game?

I've never seen this 'Ball Pops Out" scenario!
