Airbrush or Paint Graphics on Pool Table Cloth?

Airbrush or Paint Graphics on Pool Table Cloth?

I just this weekend replaced the felt on my pool table. I have to say it looks great as I went with Navy blue. Since I am a huge Sports fan, I would like to paint a team logo in the middle of the table.

So my question is, has anyone ever done this? I heard that you can airbrush graphics, but I am worried about ball play. If anyone has any ideas, pros, cons, about doing this please let me know.

I know there are felts with logos already on them, but they are beyond my price range. And since I am a good artist, i figure i may be able to paint the logo myself.

Thanks for your help guys.

    Hello RedlineMSA,

Unfortunately, this is not a good idea. Anything that changes the texture of the covering will affect play immensely. You'll have to shell out the bucks on this one. I think the ones you can buy use special dye - the same dye that makes your felt green, or in your case - navy blue. Since it is the same type, the texture of the covering is the same throughout.

If you do try it yourself, be sure to let us know how it came out, but again, I strongly recommend against it.

It is OK to do I actually am a pool table tech I move and service them and I own my own business on the side I just recently started and it is custom airbrushing the felt as long as u don't put to much paint down and u use an acrylic based paint it works just fine and doesn't hinder the play surface at all

I'd like to paint a design on my pool table cloth as well, with white paint on purple cloth.

    A few questions:

    • Should I apply the acrylic paint before or after I install the cloth on the pool table?
    • If before, would the stretching during installation have an appreciable effect on the logo?

I'd prefer to paint it after installation, but I don't want paint to stick to the pool table slate underneath.

    • What about painting the logo and then installing the cloth immediately, before the paint dries?

I'm going to be trying to paint my pool table felt to look like a football field.

I am going to try using the white bingo dauber paints on the cloth. Its not too thick and it will soak into the fabric. I'll lay out the lines with painter's tape and a straight edge first, then daub away.
