How to Play the Poker Pool Game "War" with Poker Pool Balls
In War, the object is to pocket the highest valued ball possible in one shot to win the round. The rules of the poker pool game "War" are as follows:
- Players can lag or toss a coin to determine their positions for Round One.
- Player Number One racks and breaks the balls.
- Players pocketing more than one ball on the break will score the highest valued ball.
- A player indicates (calls) the object ball and pocket before shooting.
- Players continue shooting in rotation taking turns after a shot.
- Players get one shot to pocket a ball. Missing a shot is 0 points.
- The player pocketing the highest valued ball wins the round.
- The player following the first shooter always starts a new round.
- Tie games are decided the following round. The tied player pocketing the highest valued ball wins the preceding round.
- Scratched marked balls are spotted at the foot of the table. The Cue Ball is placed on or behind the head string. Any ball below the head string can be pocketed.
- After a completed round, the winning player can take any ball out of the pocket and place it on their shelf for one point.
- All pocketed balls remain in the pocket until the game has ended, except for keeping score.
After all the balls are pocketed, the game is over. The player with the highest point total wins the game.

Somewhere between 2003-2004, Crown Games, Inc. of California began marketing the game of poker pool and were engaged in selling a set of poker-pool billiard balls. This set of balls came with a "Players Guide" book of 10 poker pool games you could play with them.
These rules for the poker pool game of "War" were included in that "Players Guide" rule book, and were also, at one time, published to pokerpool.net, which is no longer online.
