Sprained Thumb on Bridge Hand. Is it Legal to Tape the Sprain and Play?
I have a sprained thumb on my bridge hand.
I play in a league and in pool tournaments which are run under BCA rules.
Are players allowed to apply tape to support the sprained thumb while I'm playing in a league and in a tournament?
This question relates to the following billiard rules:

This is really a question for your tournament director, as it isn't explicitly outlined in any rules that I have ever seen.
I assume you mean that you want to apply the tape to your sprained thumb and not to the cue.
In that case, I would lean toward a yes—you can tape up your hand and play.
Though there is no mention of the use of medical devices (other than a wheelchair) in the World Pool-Billiard Association rules, I am assuming that it is not much different than using a glove, which are explicitly called out as being allowed.
Beyond that, we can also look to Earl Strickland, one of the better professional pool players of all time, and arguably the professional with the "most taped up fingers". He claimed to have severe arthritis and involuntary tremors in his fingers and has said that the bandages helped. He apparently also has doctor's notes for this (unverified).
