How to Indicate That You Are Next Up to Play

How to Indicate That You Are Next Up to Play

At my school, we have 2 pool tables. I started playing recently, but now the time they are available, people are always at the pool tables.

I usually sit and wait, and most people aren't courteous and let other people play, so I end up leaving.

Is there a proper way to indicate that you want to play next at a pool table? (with a friend)

This question relates to the following billiard rules:

Speak up and get to know them.

At our bar, there is a chalk board near the table. The rules are simple and fair.

You write your name on the chalk board at the bottom of the list. When your name is on the top of the list; it is your rack. When you rack; your name is removed from the list. A name cannot be on the list more than once.

How do you work out the time allotted on the table without people complaining?

One rack per name. At our bar, the winner of the rack, is challenged by the next person on the list, and the challenger puts the money in the machine (coin-op). A rack last only as long as the game being played (chosen by the winner--owner of the table). So, some racks last a single shot (like making the 8-ball on the break) or basically forever (2 really poor players).

I like the chalkboard in most cases. The coins on the rail are the worst. People steal quarters and rearrange them. If you want to play doubles with your friend you might ask the "owner aka. current winner" if they would like to play doubles. If they want to keep it singles you'll have to win the game and as the new "winner" you can tell the incoming that you want to play doubles with your friend and for them to arrange for a partner.
