Tips for Jumping Balls
When you perform a jump shot, it can send your cue ball flying into the air to avoid obstacles and hitting your desired ball. Skills wise, there are many obstacles to tackle too when performing the shot.
Here are some useful tips you should remember when making the jump shot and making it a successful one.
Jump short distances only
Jumping over shorter distances is better. Why is this? You have to understand that it is very hard to jump the white ball over a distance of 4 or 5 diamonds. It is much more practical to jump the white ball over a distance like 1 or 2 diamonds.
Keep it straight
You actually increase your chances if the shot is rather straight. For example, it is much harder to cut the ball with your cue ball at an angle. This is because the ball flew into the air, remember?
Jump shot at the rail
Did you know you can increase your jump shot accuracy if you hit the target ball indirectly? This means you first hit the rail of the table, then the cue ball bounces (or banks) off the rail and roll towards the target ball. Therefore, rather than hitting the cue ball directly onto the targeted ball, you jump the cue ball into the rail first. When you do this, you increase your accuracy of a jump shot.
Keep it low
You just have to send the ball flying over the obstacle over a nice height. You should never try to jump the ball as high as you can, especially if it is a short distance. After all, you are jumping over balls which are only 1 to 2 inches high. Keep the jumping height at a minimum.
