Extra Shaft With New Pool Cue
I'm buying a new cue and am wondering how important it is to order an extra shaft together with the cue at the time of purchase. Its extra bucks plus the problem of figuring out where to store it when you only have a single cue case with no room for extra stuff.

If you're buying a custom pool cue, rather than a production cue, they are generally included in the price and on resale, you may not get top dollar without 2 shafts. Any reputable cue maker, or retail store, will be able to make extra shaft(s) for a cue, but you have to loan them the butt so they can match the joint/threaded screw and detail of the original joint. Be wary of anyone who won't ask to have the butt to match it. A couple of things to consider in choosing an extra shaft include looking for an identical shaft with the same tip and ferule material. In case you're playing and lose a tip or damage the shaft, an identical shaft will let you get back to the table quicker.
I have a shaft with a 13.75 mm tip, a shorter taper and shorter length, using it only for jump or masse shots. Some players have extra shafts with a harder or softer tip than their "run" cue. They can change the feel and action of a shot just by changing shafts. Talk to a cue maker about it if you can.
As for something to protect the extra shaft(s) you purchase, you can buy additional pockets that may fit your existing case, contact the manufacturer or you can invest in a 2/2 or a 3/3 case which will give you more pockets and space for other gear.
