California Cancer Warning on a Player's Pool Cue
I just started shooting again. Been decades since I shot.
My friend is inexperienced, but getting better fast. I wanted him to shoot with better cue than his house cue so I bought him a "Players C-960" pool cue based on reviews of low end, but decent stick. Got it out of the box, and was very impressed with feel.
Then read the following cancer warning stuck on the stick:
"This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm"
He's a cancer survivor. I took the stick from him and sent it back.
I've been looking on the web and can't find anything related to what is in the cue to warrant the warning.
Why the warning? Is it common to see that warning on sticks now?
Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.
I do have to tell you that the $90 stick shot really nice, especially at that price point. :(
Is it possible to get a stick in the $100 range that isn't junk?

It is a California state law, California Proposition 65 (1986).
As far as I know, it isn't common to see this on pool cues, but common to see it on products to be sold into or out of California.
You should be able to find something decent at this price still, though it can be hit-and-miss (no pun intended).

Hello,
All products containing brass are required to use this warning according to CA law. Nearly all 2 piece pool cues feature a brass insert in the joint & are legally required to use the CA prop 65 warning. I believe the warning is misleading since brass is only harmful if consumed.
Hope that helps
