1960s "Original By Palmer" Model 5 "De Luxe" Custom Pool Cue for Sale

1960s "Original By Palmer" Model 5 "De Luxe" Custom Pool Cue for Sale

I will be selling this cue. It has been in storage for over 40 years. I will look at the best offer over $500

For Sale - "Original by Palmer" Pool Cue - 1960s Catalogue Model 5 "De Luxe" Custom Pool Cue

I have been told this cue is the 1960s Palmer Model 5 "De Luxe" custom cue from the first Palmer catalogue (SEE - "1960s Catalogue 1 - Model 5 'De Luxe'" below for comparison). That advice looks to be correct considering the size of the “Original By Palmer” customization window and shorter butt end.

There is a little more customization on this cue from the base Palmer model 5. It looks very similar to the Palmer Catalogue 3, Model cue 14 also.

The cue is in really nice shape, is all-original, and has not been refinished. It has a gorgeous patina as it is, and everything is intact.

  • It has a nickel silver joint, and weighs 20 oz. with the 13mm shaft attached.
  • It features incredible detail on forearm. Three of the points are in perfect symmetry, and one point is off by 3mm. They have four subtle veneer colors, very dark inner points, and very, very fine detail.
  • It has a silver foil band under very large window with “Original by Palmer” (and no custom owner name).

It has two shafts:

  1. Palmer 12mm shaft which rolls perfectly flat with the base, and;
  2. The original 13mm shaft which is ever-so-slightly off flat.

This is a really nice shooting cue and has a very solid feel with both shafts.

It comes with a rare 1960s - 1970s Brunswick 3 slot red felt leather case. It does have some tape wrapped around the bottom because of bottom seam has split.

The original owner slammed the butt end into the case bottom when I won it from him in 1983, which split the bottom seam slightly. I had forgotten I had this cue until I found it a few months ago, stashed with some of my other treasures that have been in storage for the last 40 years.

It has been stored upright in a storage case since 1984 until a recent Irish linen re-wrap of handle (as the original ivory colored Irish linen wrap was chalk stained and marked up with a hideous design and initials of previous owner).

I had no idea of what I had until I took it in for a re-wrap.

Catalogue 1 (1960s) - Palmer Cues

My cue would be the "5", but also comes with an extra 12mm Shaft

Another Similar Palmer Cue Model

Here is a cue exactly like mine that was sold through Dennis Auction Service (NJ) in 2021. It had been refinished, and was being sold with just a single shaft. The veneers in my version have more color.

Circa 1965; butt: 28 1/2", 15.9 oz.; shaft: 28 3/4", 4.2 oz, 12.6mm; total length 57", 20.1 oz; points with four veneers, linen wrap, straight, 40 MOP inlays; window reads "Original by Palmer" on silver foil.
