I have a feeling the expert will be along shortly.

    Is there a question?

This has been for sale in NYC.

There is another Palmer Model C on ClassicCues.com which is identical but in nicer condition for the same price.

    Interesting.

I figured you may have seen it and/or been aware of it.

There was nothing posted but pics so I was unwilling to comment on the cue.

I posted this under the pool cue value section. I figured it is obvious why the pics are here.

The cue is in excellent non-refurbished condition. Nothing has been replaced in keeping it's value.

The brass can be shined, but I'm not messing with it because I don't want to chance tainting the wood. Besides, it gives the cue it's collectible character.

Everything is solid and the cue is straight.

The Model C for some reason is a slow seller. I consider it a desirable cue but buyers seem to prefer Palmers with windows and plastic rings. Recent sales have been less than your asking price.

    Hmm... interesting.

Sorry you have had no luck with the Palmer Model C, @Type79. They are quite rare and desirable.

I have a couple of people interested, which is challenging to say the least.

I noticed you have a collection of the plastic ring Palmer models.

Sorry you have had no luck with the Model C.

Thanks for your insight. Good luck with your sale.

Sorry you have had no luck with the Model C, @Type79. They are quite rare and desirable. I have a couple of people interested, which is challenging to say the least.

    Then why are you asking?

    What are you asking?

You have interested parties? Sell it.

I am an "interested party" as a serious cue collector, and this sale isn't even on my radar.

There are only two people to ask about Palmer cues as far as I am concerned. Plastic rings or not. You got one of them here (@Type79), and I think his take is accurate.

The Palmer Model C cue is a slow seller. You seem to be experiencing that at the moment.

Why? Because it is not a Palmer cue in the classic sense with the classic style points. It is a "tribute cue". Yes, it is a legitimate Palmer. But more people want a Palmer with classic Palmer design characteristics because although he/they were an iconic maker, they were not necessarily great playing cues.

There are many Titlist conversions of that era which are worth more. I have a Ricco Gandy Titlist which I wouldn't trade for two or three of those. I have a 1966 Viking Titlist conversion I might trade even up, maybe. Maybe, but probably not as my cue is more rare and honestly probably a better player.

If you already know the game on this cue, why are you posting it asking? Just saying.

@Type79 and @Chopdoc, I'm guessing that billiardsforum.com is your website?

  10. user1567758428billiardsforum on 9/10/2019 2:39:17 AM

    It isn't.

But @Type79 and @Chopdoc are both experienced pool cue collectors and I consider myself lucky that they participate here on this site.

I am offering my more detailed low-down on Palmer Model C cues for any interested parties.

In my opinion the Palmer Model C cues are worth $850 all day long. They do hit the market, but they linger. I own a Palmer Model C which is in excellent original condition, has two original shafts, and a Cortland wrap. I paid around $850 at the time and felt fortunate to find it.

If one has interested buyers at $650 or more, I would seriously consider their offers. That may be less than what you might like to get for the cue but the market is, and has been, weak. Right now there are collectors who are liquidating - which on the one hand is saturating the market and on the other making some very interesting and rare cues available. The latter results in buyer's funds being reserved and or spent on the rare opportunities. Some of these collections that are being dribbled-out have inventory in the hundreds.

I don't sell anything. My conclusions come from observing actual sales, or non-sales. At present there are some great bargains to be had. Currently, there are probably a minimum of 25-30 excellent vintage Palmer cues on the market. The majority of them are priced right. Why some of them have not sold is speculation, but I suspect it is due to the reasons I outlined above. Three Palmer cues on the open market are cues that players and collectors should pounce-on, but they remain available.

    Thank you, @Type79.

2nd catalog Palmer Model C cues are rare to come by and are sought after. I am not desperate to sell it, nor am I in a rush to sell. I would like to sell it to someone who truly wants it, rather than to someone who is just going to flip it. So if they want a 2nd catalog Model C cue they will pay very close to the $850 I'm asking. If not, so be it.

@Type79 - A lot better than what I can say.

That's why you are the expert.
