cue tip installation on graphite snooker cue
Recently I bought a graphite snooker cue (grafix 147) with titanium tip shaft. The original tip on the cue was a layered leather tip which was not suitable to play the game ( I believe it was a dummy tip). Also on applying some pressure it came of in form of thin slices. So I removed it completely and I realized that there is a black portion above the ferrule (B) on which the original tip (T) was mounted. Hence I mounted new (Elk) tip on the black portion. However I realized that while playing it is making a funny sound. Also the feeling while playing shot is not right. In case of wooden cues the tip is mounted on the ferrule and there is no additional cue portion above the ferrule. This is the first time I am using this (graphite) type of cue so I am not sure the way I have mounted the tip is the right way or do I need to file off portion B too and mount the tip on ferrule. I have indicated the same in the diagram below.

If anybody know about tipping this type of cue. Please help.

Are you sure the old tip is not a screw on? The black ring you describe sounds like the mounting pad that has a threaded stud that screws into the ferrule. Try unscrewing it and if it does come off I have mounted tips onto the ferrule as is with good results.

Did you try making contact with Graphix?

@Mitch Alsup, I have written to them and I am awaiting reply.
@jags, I tried it but it did not unscrew. But now that you have mentioned it I will try it again.

Its confirmed that it is not screw type. But it looks like the black ring (about 1.5 mm thick) is made of soft material and need to be chopped off & put the tip directly on ferule
