1950s Pool Cue - Help please!

1950s Pool Cue - Help please!

Hello! My husband plays pool and over Christmas my dad, who is in his 70s, gave him his old cue. Dad says he bought the cue when he was out in Oregon (most likely the 60s?) and told my husband he could have it "if it was worth anything". The cue comes apart in several pieces. I would say at least 6 or 7, and it can be put back together in several ways. There is a silver label near the butt that says "World Famous 57 No 2154 Made in Taiwan Republic of China". Does anyone know anything about the maker of this cue? My husband is really curious, especially about the type of wood it's made out of. It seems to be a good stick. I'll try getting a decent picture and put it up, my current lighting isn't good for pictures.

Thank you for any help you can provide!

It could have ben made by any one of a number of cue makers in China. Even today a large percentage of cues are made in China. I have never seen a cue that has more than 2 parts other than a break/jump cue that that has 3 parts so it can be reduced to approx 40 inches. The silver label may be a clue to a cue makers identity within a company and the 4 digit some kind of a production number. As for the wood, anything is possible in China, when it comes to materials. My guess is that it is some kind of a factory ID production number.

The cue comes apart in 3 main parts, with 2 removable rings on each end of the middle piece. So I guess it really only does come in 3 pieces, but it seems like he's always finding new pieces that come off of it. My husband says we could just ask my dad, but that would take all the fun out of searching!

I have to agree with your husband. Asking Dad is and should be the first part of the search. He may be able to add stuff that no one else has privy to. From your limited description the cue sounds like a break/jump cue that comes in 3 pieces so it can be shortened to 40 inches for a jump shot.
