1 Pocket Billiard Tips

I recently started playing 1-pocket more.

Any strategy tips for 1 pocket other than to learn to bank better?.

I've only played one game recently where I had my opponent stuck and playing more defense the me.

This question relates to the following billiard rules:

I just read the rules pertaining to 1 Pocket and my eyes are now crossed from rereading some of the rules. It sounds like an interesting game, but I did not quite understand having to give back a ball. Is that done on intentional fouls? I would imagine that having to use one pocket and getting access to it while an opponent is trying to block you can be challenging.

We were just discussing the diamonds, and now I can see how knowing their worth can be valuable in 1 pocket. I played around with them today.

On any foul you owe a ball. You have to spot one of your balls if you have one otherwise you owe it. 3 in a row and it's lose of game. That's why it's taken me several weeks just understand the rules and I need lots of help with strategy.

There's only one way to get good at any game or sport. Practice, Practice, Practice. Play as much one pocket as you can, the more you play the more you'll understand everything.

hey Fenwick I hope you are still playing one pocket every chance you get. Acu-stats has some fantastic matches available. The only problem of course is that these guys are playing world class pool and a liot of the things they do I simply can not get there. But still a great way to get a feel for the game. The wonderful thing about one-pocket is that it allows the permanenly stroke impaired such as myself to stay in the game because strategy is ALMOST as important as pocketing skills. hope to hear more about your progress and more on one pocket in general on the forum. spinnerbait

    Stitch, quickshot and spinnerbait,

Thanks for the encouragement and advice. One problem is I play mostly straight pool. Second there are only 4 players who like 1 pocket. Third I rarely get to practice and work on my banks. When I show up to practice there is always someone looking for a game of straight pool. I find it hard to say no. Its the penalties of my actions in 1 pocket I fail to see but I'm learning. I was taught a new safety pertaining to 1 pocket yesterday. It's a slow work in progress. On the positive side I'm not lacking in top notch players willing to share information. Former road players, former pros and several BCA master players. A pool hall junkie's heaven. I think that is due to the fact I'm willing to listen rather then waiting to speak.
