Rules and who follows them LOL
You really gotta laugh at the "rules". Everywhere I have ever went, whether it be a friends house or a pub EVERYONE had their OWN set of rules(usually wrong by the way) OR they would change the rules as the game went on... in their favor of course.

Moved this one over from the "10 Ball Rules" forum.

Whenever I play I try to educate my fellow players on the BCA rules. This avoids conflicts over whose bar rules will prevail and most like the ball in hand.

I thought, we had such problems here in Russia only. It's quite difficult to find a rival to play pool with, who knows official rules. For example, many amateur players think, that foul must be punished by shooting from the head spot...

It would be nice if all the world's "keeper of the words" got together and standardized the rules. It seems that the rules differ in every country. Par for the course I guess.
Another nation heard from.

For my own pool table I printed up a "house rules" poster and hung it up on the wall. My friends are always trying to tell me "the rules" in my own house? I don't think so.

The most part of our billiards halls also have official rules on their walls, but it doesn't help...

Can anyone tell me if it is normal to automatically win the game by making the 8 ball in on the break? I'm talking about any pocket. Also automatically lose if you scratch on the break.

No and no. That's more of the "house rules" nonsense. Look up the standard rules through the link above.

If you have a rule that says:: "If you announce a new rule, it does not begin to take effect until the next game" most of the hassles vanish. That is, inform the party of the rule infraction or potential rule infraction and give him a pass this time. Thus, he becomes more informed, and you look like a gentleman rather than a jerk.
