Info on Hippopotamus Billiard Chair

I’m trying to get some insight on this Hippopotamus billiard chair. It looks to be the same brand as the pool table someone asked about in the question titled Info on the Hippopotamus Brand Pool Tables?.

I found it at goodwill and fell in love with it!

I wanna know stuff about it, other than the fact that it’s a chair.

    It's a billiards spectator chair made by a company called Hippopotamus (often shortened to "Hippo").

    The Hippopotamus furniture company was founded by Jim Auerbach around 1975 and was based out of Los Angeles, CA. The parent company was JSA Corp. They were located at:

    6801 Wilson Ave
    Los Angeles, CA 90001

    They were then purchased by Golden Oak sometime in 2004, and production moved to Mexico.

    Those chairs probably retailed new for somewhere between $150 and $300.

    Not sure what else you want to know. There's not much more than that.

    There are a few identical Hippopotamus spectator chairs currently on eBay for $400+, but they'll never sell for that price.

    The pair of Hippopotamus spectator chairs below sold recently for $225 (for the pair). This is probably a more accurate reflection of the current market price for these chairs.

    It is the Hippopotamus Spectator Stool (model ST-2, I believe) in pool ball fabric and tawny oak finish. I believe original wholesale price was about $179.

    My father designed this as we were in the dining room furniture business and had many clients that were pool table dealers.

    We sold hundreds of thousands of them, and the the success of the spectator stool led us to briefly manufacture pool tables. The spectator stool in the picture was built in Los Angeles, CA.

    Production was probably between 1992-2000, give or take.

    Once my father left the business in 2000 because of his less than honorable partners, the company went quickly downhill. The factory folded and they sold the name.
