Tile Under Pool Table

Hi I'm making the final decisions before buying my first pool table and I'd like to ideally have a black and white checkerboard tile underneath of it. The basement in which I'm putting the table has concrete flooring with a carpet on top right now. I was looking at ceramic tile until a flooring dealer pointed out that if pool balls were to fly off the table, my tile would crack. Is this a true possibility? Would using Dura-ceramic be any better? I really want a pool table and yet I really want this black and white tile! Please help!
