Pool Table on Ceramic Tile
It was suggested to me that in using ceramic tile under a pool table the ceramic could crack if a pool ball is to fly off the table. Then again I have seen pool tables on tile. Has anyone had a problem with this? Would dura-ceramic be any better?

It all depends on the quality of the tile installation job. I've seen many jobs where the tiles feel "hollow" underneath, as in the grout/glue was not evenly distributed, and there are air pockets. The ball falls on that, its gonna crack indefinitely.
If the tiles are solid, and the glue underneath is complete and evenly distributed, you shouldn't have issues. If one does happen to crack, it can always be replaced. Buy a spare box of tiles just in case. I just love the look of a nice rectangle of tile just under the table, and then either carpet or hardwood in the other areas of the room.

Make sure that they use a proper underlayment like Ditera and you should be ok.

Friends tiled a small basement room with their table and I remember noticing a loud echo chamber effect on breakshots etc. The cool tiles can be a problem playing in socks as well.

Where I work in a community room (part-time) we have tile on the floor with two pool tables. I'm constantly hearing the cue ball bouncing off the floor with no damage. If you use a good tile and the job is done right there should not be a problem. They did not use an underlayer and the tiles are set on concrete floor. The tiles, I believe, are 1x1.
