Home 7' Pool Table vs Bar Box Playability
I play a lot of league pool and I am looking to buy a table for my home. I can squeeze an eight foot table in my room but a 7 footer will easily fit. My concern is that the 7' home table's playing dimensions are 2" shorter and 1" narrower than the normal bar box that I am used to playing on. Is the difference on the 7 footer going to show up in my game. Granted I am an 8.5 to 9 in my valley league. I am thinking that the 8' will be better for my game. What are your thoughts?

What kind of tables does your bar have? Diamond 7' bar tables and home tables are the same size, although I'm aware that other brands are smaller. If you can't find a Diamond or don't want to spend that much, I'd personally go for an 8 footer. Not that I think your game will suffer terribly, I just think bigger is better in all situations. In other words, I believe a player who practices on an 8 foot table 90% of the time and a 7 foot table 10% of the time will be better on a 7 foot table than a player who practices on a 7 foot table 100% of the time (although I am quite aware that opinions vary on the topic).
How much smaller than the ideal room size is your room? You can usually go a little smaller than the room chart and just get a shorty cue for those specific instances when the walls/obstacles come into play. If there's a big difference, err on the side of caution and go small. Any table is better than no table!
