Spin Shots
I have been playing pool for a while now but just for fun and am thinking of trying to join a local pub team. I have been practicing heaps lately and just cant work out how to spin the ball properly. Was wondering if i could get some tips on how to get backspin and such on my shots?

Welcome, There is a wealth of information right here on this site. From position play to shot making and all types of English. In the time it would take me to explain you could get better answers doing a search right here or here http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rls=com.netscape%3Aen-US&q=draw+stop+shot+drills+billiards&btnG=Search
If you truly want my long winded reply just ask for it but I'm not a pro nor do I pretend to be. - quickshot on 3/30/2008 8:58:37 PM
Or you can go to YouTube and do a search for Dr.Cue. He has about 25 videos on various aspects of playing pool. Or you can register with Billiards.com where there is a wealth of information in the forums and the lesson
section. The lather would be my advice based on the information I have gleaned so far. Or, you can do both of the above. Good luck and have fun.

Getting spin on the ball comes down to the timing and follow through of your stroke, every time. You must also be sure that you are not practicing with a mud ball (heavy cue ball) or the big cue ball which is common on many older bar box tables. Playing with a red circle cue ball is my favorite. What size of table are you shooting on? There is a free fundamental training course available with the link below. This course gets into detail on how to get the spin on the ball.
