Brunswick Bayfield Vs Olhausen Chicago
Hello all! I've been looking at tables for a while and have narrowed it down to these two:
https://www.brunswickbilliards.com/pool-tables/bayfield
http://www.olhausenbilliards.com/products/255
The two local shops I'm working with have the Brunswick at $2,500 and the Olhausen at $5,000 (delivery and setup included). That's a HUGE price difference! The only difference in quality that I can find is that the Brunswick aprons are engineered wood with veneer (legs and rails are solid maple), while the Olhausen is 100% maple.
I'm not going used because the Mrs. is very particular about getting a black table and I haven't been able to find a decent used black one in the 5 months I've been searching.
I'm not a great pool player but hope to become one. I'm looking for a table that I will love to play on that will also look great in our game room, which already has all black furniture. I am also big on quality as I want this table to last for many decades to come.
Thanks in advance for your input.

I am quite sure the wood difference you found (plus the fact that Brunswick manufactures those offshore - I think) makes up most of the difference in price you are seeing.
If you compare the Brunswick Bayfield pool table to one of the tables from the Olhausen V Series pool tables (Olhausen "Veneer" series), the prices match up more closely. If you are trying to compare apples to apples, this might be the correct comparison.
I agree $2500 is a huge difference and personally, I am not sure the difference, if any, in play you will experience is worth anywhere near that.
If you are a life-long player or an aspiring professional pool player, you might consider a used professional-grade pool table like a Brunswick Gold Crown. Huge difference.
Either way, good luck with the purchase. Let us know what you end up doing.

Thanks for the feedback. And yes I see where you are correct in the comparisons.
I'm not a big player, but I like nice things especially when they are in my living area for perhaps decades to come. This is a decision I'm going to be looking at and playing with for a very long time.
I called the local Brunswick shop here in Salt Lake, which has been great to work BTW. I'm now looking at the Brunswick Bridgeport as it is solid wood through and through. More of a comparison to the Olhausen Chicago. It has the pull-out drawer which is nice as well as the drop pockets, which I also like. It comes in espresso, which might be dark enough for the Mrs. It also puts our purchase in the $5k range which will get us all this furniture Bruswick is offering currently with their deal. Though it is more than I wanted to spend, I'm leaning towards the Bridgeport.
Comments and suggestions are welcome! Thanks

After considering this further, I've opted to go with the solid wood Olhausen Huntington. Brunswick didn't have the Bridgeport table I wanted in the color I wanted (black). And the more I thought about the Bayfield, it just didn't feel right. The Huntington is going to run me almost twice as much as the Bayfield, but I know I'm getting a better table. I want this table to be around for my grandkids (which I don't have...yet) to enjoy long after I'm gone.
I love how Olhausen gives you the option of customizing your table. Here is a picture of the Olhausen Huntington we're going with:

Nice! I've heard good things about the Olhausen Huntington pool table.
Good luck with the transaction.
