Antique Brunswick Pool Table Question

Antique Brunswick Pool Table Question

I am considering buying this antique Brunswick pool table as a restoration project.

The seller states that this pool table is an antique Brunswick model which has 4-piece slate.

Can anyone identify the make and model and possibly the date range of this antique Brunswick pool table?

Thank you for entertaining my question.

I have had three pool tables almost identical to it, and my advice is—DON'T BUY IT. They are a huge pain in the ass.

One of mine had bad slate with veins of clay running though it that you could scrape off with your finger nail. I tried plastering and worked really hard on it but eventually decided to literally throw it away. I did manage to restore one other one of these Brunswick pool tables, but sold it. The third one, I got set up and playing well but then threw it away too.

The slate bolts to the frame from the sides which is why it has those floral looking bolt covers around the edge. It's an inferior design but worth it IF the pool table model featuring that design is really really special. This model isn't special at all.

You're going to have to put a ton of work into it even if the slate is good. The pockets are huge and will need to be shimmed.

The one I got that was just like this one was really cheap, somewhere around $75. Don't pay anywhere near $600 for it if you do decide to buy it.

I got this one below looking and playing very well but then sold it. My advice is to never buy one of these unless you can see the slate first.

Thank you very much for the input.

This would be a first pool table restoration project for me and that sounds like it may be way way out of my league.

I appreciate you steering me in the right direction.

Set your sights on a used Brunswick Gold Crown pool table that needs work.

It's hard to go wrong with those unless it has bad slate. The later Brunwsick Gold Crown III pool tables from the 1990s had better slate. Also some of the early GCIII pool tables had bad rubber cushions that got rock hard over time.

I bought a 1990s Brunswick Gold Crown III pool table for $500 because it got hurricaned on. It was able to get it playing and looking fantastic.
