From Ted Harris' website in 2019:
In 1987 Ted Harris started working at a pool hall in Ocean City, MD called Gentleman Jim's for Jim Mathias, who would later go on to be Mayor and also a State Representative in the Maryland Senate. Over the four years there, he practiced hard and played in tournaments, and even promoted the Maryland State Championships and the Mark Giarratana Memorial for several years. While there, he started selling cues, and eventually took a crack at repairing cues too. After a weekend jaunt to play and do repairs at the New York State Championships in Binghampton, NY, he decided to take it on the road!
Thanksgiving 1991 brought about a major change in his life via a road trip to Reno to do cue repair at the Sands Regency during the USPPA, Pro/Am and MPBA event! When he started that first trip, he only had one tournament booked! The plan was to try to play pool for a living, and do cue repair when he got broke! Guess what? It ain't hard to get broke! So within about a year he started to realize that pool playing was gonna take a back seat to cue repair.
He was having so much fun on the road that he did not go home until 1996! In that time, there was a stay of about 6 months in Phoenix with good friend Andy Scott that was mostly playing around the Phoenix area in tournaments.
Then he moved on to Los Angeles where he met and became great friends with Jerry McWorter. During his time there, he learned a lot about making cues, and began to consider the possibility of someday making his own cues. In 1994 during the WPA World Championships in Chicago, he met Joe Gold of Cognoscenti cues and began acquiring machinery to make cues from Joey.
During that first trip and the following years he traveled to over 400 tourneys in the US from Florida to Maine to Seattle to San Diego! and Canada from Quebec City to Vancouver to provide cue repair for everyone from beginners to amateurs to most all of the top professional players in the world! He also visited and met many other cuemakers on that fateful trip!
In 1996 he stopped traveling full time and relocated to frequent road playing partner Danny Green's residence in Silver Spring, MD. After a year or so there, late 1997 brought about a another relocation to Salisbury, MD where the shop was set up at his good friend John Moody's popular tournament players room "Action Billiards."
In the summer of 1999 the shop was relocated to Westover, MD on the "Clifton Estate" where an absolutely beautiful shop was created.
After 19 years of being away from family the shop was then relocated on August 18th, 2005 to Hollywood, FL where he could be near his family.
On August 18th, 2019, he then relocated again to his new home in Rugby, ND where the focus is now on making cues!
