Buddy's Billiards and Social Club has just celebrated its sixth anniversary, I venture inside the cool, dim, spotless two-level business. There is a small bar upstairs, with dart boards; and down a flight of stairs illuminated by string lights is a larger space.
Anna Rawding the bartender at Buddy's Pool Hall and a 25-year veteran of the profession, has been working here for 3 years. "Buddy's Pool Hall is a real neighbourhood place," says the slender blond woman. "We have seasonal parties all year long, we sponsor a baseball team and we have an annual auction with proceeds going to Camp Connect. I think what I like best about Buddy's is that it's intimate and friendly," says Rawding. "We're very much part of the community."
Buddy's is also a member of the Metro Pool League and regularly holds tournaments, she says, pointing toward the two tables behind us, their huge carved legs shining in the half-light.
