Touching the 8 Ball With the Cue
I have a question about touching the 8 ball with the cue.
When the 8 ball is the last ball remaining, would someone lose if it was hit into the pocket with the cue?
This question relates to the following billiard rules:

If it is hit into the called pocket with the cue ball, you win. If it is hit into any pocket with the cue stick, you lose.

If you hit the 8-ball with the cue stick into a pocket intentionally, it is an unsportsman-like conduct foul, and can lead to being thrown out of a tournament (2nd infringement). It is loss of game.
If you hit the 8-ball with the cue stick into a pocket unintentionally, the 8-ball gets respotted as clost to where it was as possible and incomming player has Ball in Hand. On a bar table (pay machine) it is loss of game.

Cue stick ... always lose. If you are in a league or tournament you lose for unsportsmanlike behaviour, so check the rules before you do it. In challenge games or races to a certain number of games, you will see it more; but that just boils down to a dramatic way of conceding. A lot of games will not end with the eight ball or nine ball being pocketed; the opponent just says "take it" or "give it to you" and the game ends and you don't have to finish. I have seen games where the opponent concedes with more than one ball left, since the out is so easy that he just wants to move on to the next game.

That sounds like valid information!
