Bank the Eight in Eight Ball
Playing 8 ball and banking the eight.
- Player 1 is on the table and has three balls left.
- Player 2 is on the eight ball and waiting for a turn.
- The eight ball is behind the head string line.
- Player 1 shoots and misses and scratches the cue ball.
- Player 2 has ball in hand behind the head string.
- Since the eight ball and the cue ball are both behind the head string, player 2 cannot shoot a bank shot but rather, must shoot down the table first.
Is a kick shot to pocket the eight ball okay, or does player 2 now have to play a safety and contact the eight ball without pocketing it?
What if player 2 tries to play the safety and fouls by missing the eight completely? Does player 1 now get ball in hand behind the head string (and thus, now has the same problem)?

According to Bank Pool Rules on this website, if the ball-in-hand and the 8-ball are both behind the head string, the 8-ball is spotted at the other end of the table (on the foot spot).
Player 1 would have the same problem only if all three of his balls are behind the head string.
